Rural Dhaga

Conserving heritage, Stitching dreams...

The diaspora of India’s rich cultural bouquet finds artistic expression in her varied handicrafts. One such gem- the Kantha(s) of Bengal. Handmade and crafted with care they tell stories. From home décor to spread-sheets, Kanthas come in an array of organic colors and have evolved to be magical, multi-functional assets.

We are the thread that joins the weavers and the buyers...

Rural Dhaga is committed to source directly from the craftsmen, to ensure maximum benefit to them and to enthral you with quality products. Here at Rural Dhaga we aspire to have
relationship that lasts long, just like our Kanthas. In olden times these handwoven soft double
clothed kanthas were stitched with motives by mothers and grandmothers for babies to sleep and lull on them. Although, due to dearth of time, the actual purpose of kanthas is lost today, Rural Dhaga leaped into an endeavor to hold onto its rich heritage.

The Thought...
Diya Ghosh & Hiya Ghosh

Diya and Hiya, two young women of 27 and 21 years, have a dream to see women artisans of rural Birbhum to be successful and economically independent.

This dream had its roots in their childhood when they used to travel to Shantiniketan often with their grandparents and played with little village girls amongst abundance of nature, dotted with Palash flowers and red laterite.

The openness and simplicity of these village belles and their surprising talent in handicrafts amazed the ponytailed city girls. Together they created playful classroom ambience under mango groves and made future plans. The camaraderie was stimulating for the sisters and thus ensued a fruitful partnership, more a relationship bond, under the aegis of Rural Dhaga. The journey continues towards a brighter and better future for women entrepreneurship with a heart.
